Kerry Wood Will Earn $4.2 Million to Be Injured

In the past three seasons, Kerry Wood has pitched a total of 110 innings. In those three years, he made a combined $23.25 million. Let’s see here: Start > Programs > Accessories > Calculator tells me that works out to $211,363 per inning pitched between ‘05-‘07.

Yeah, I think that totally deserves a new deal for ‘08 worth $4.2 million.

There are also $3.45 million in incentives built into the deal, which I assume only kick in if he doesn’t get injured. So in other words, they won’t kick in.
“Only” four mill in guaranteed money obviously isn’t much these days (said in my best grandpa voice), but what makes anyone think this guy can pitch a whole season? If he does, it could work out to be a steal for Chicago and I’ll end up feeling stupid. As usual. But for now, the over/under on innings pitched is set at 40.↵
