This Is What $450 Million Will Get the Rays

By Chris Mottram
Tampa Bay officially released their plans for a new baseball stadium today. To me, it kinda looks like a big tent over a field, but you can draw your own conclusions (see larger image):

Other than the way it looks (which is questionable), there are two main concerns. First, why all those seats? Does that franchise have 34,000 fans? Secondly -- and probably related to the first issue -- the Rays are still the team playing under that tent, right?
But it’s not all negative. They’re going to have A/C in the concourses. Yeah, Tampa Bay just totally invented outside air conditioning. I’ve been begging for that since I was like 10. Well, that and flying cars.
We should commended Tampa for taking architectural risks with their stadiums, however. They do have a pirate ship that shoots “cannonballs” in their football stadium. This seems tame compared to that Disney-esque catastrophe.
Related: Rays are close to a blockbuster deal which would send Delmon Young to the Twins.
