Broadway Joe, meet Hollywood Jake.
Daily Variety reports that Universal Pictures has its leading man for its upcoming biopic on Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath -- Jake Gyllenhaal.
Look, Gyllenhaal has never been a small-screen crush for both Marcia Brady and Luci Arnaz and aced a “Flex All 454” commercial, but he’s got the acting chops (Brokeback Mountain, anyone? Just me?) to make us watch him trip up over that Alabama-New York hybrid accent. This also marks the first time in history that casting directors are scrambling to find someone right for part of Weeb Ewbanks.
The big question is, will Gyllenhall partake in aging makeup magic and be “kissing Suzy Kolber” in a climactic scene? As we eagerly await the short list for who should play Suzy K., here are some other picks for who should play other famous QBs:
Peyton Manning -- Edward Norton
Brett Favre -- Brad Pitt
Tom Brady -- Matt Damon
Tony Romo -- Ashton Kutcher
Vinny Testaverde -- John Travolta
Dan Marino -- George Hamilton
George Plimpton -- Peter Gammons
