Torii Hunter Likes Money, Monkeys

By Chris Mottram

Hunter signed a five-year deal worth $90 million – which was made official at a Del Taco fast food joint in SoCal – last week. Yesterday, he was officially introduced by the team, and basically admitted the Angels overpaid for his services.
“I would have signed for less,” said Hunter, who had five-year offers, ranging from $70 million to $75 million, from the White Sox, Rangers and Royals, and the day before the Angels offer dined with Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks. What if the Angels offered less than those other teams? “I still would have taken it!”
$90 million, $70 million; let’s not squabble over nickels and dimes, boys.
Aside from making the franchise feel stupid, Torii also expressed his new found love for the rally monkey, which is arguable the most annoying thing in the history of sports (watch video), saying, “This rally monkey has been in my nightmares, and I’m just happy to be a part of this organization and being a part of the monkey. And the monkey is gonna be my friend.”
[Insert juvenile monkey-related joke here]
