The Patriots will win on Saturday to complete the most remarkable regular
season in modern team sports. They will then win two playoff games and the
Super Bowl to complete the most remarkable accomplishment in modern team sports.
Not to go too overboard about it, but 19-0 would transcend simple greatness
on the football field. Which got me to thinking, what are the equivalent
great achievements in recent years in other areas of pop culture? Here are
my picks:
Book: A Parliament of Whores, by P.J. O’Rourke. I’ve read it at least five
times and laugh until my stomach hurts each time.
Movie: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. No matter how many
times I’ve seen the spider stab Frodo, I still scream. Like a sissy.
Album: Appetite for Destruction, Guns N’ Roses. Twenty years later, the disc still does not have a less than great song. Observe the righteousness as Slash’s tasty lick from “Sweet Child O’ Mine” rocks your face!:
