There’s a ton of bowl games, and you can’t watch them all if you have a real job. Fortunately, we don’t, so take advantage and use the Two Minute Bowl Preview to stay current and sound like you know what you’re talking about.
Competitive? Oh, sure. Alabama races out to 27-0 lead, you’re thinking stinker and peeking over at the Titans-Colts game, and then Colorado storms back in the second half to force Alabama to hang on for a 30-24 win--the Tide’s first in two months.
Relevant stat to quote like you actually watched the whole game if you didn’t: Alabama outrushed the Buffaloes 132 yards to 75, allowing for some crucial offensive balance and taking pressure off INT-prone Bama qb John Parker Wilson. The Buffs’ dangerous Hugh Charles never really got going against Bama’s disciplined run defense.
Sentence that makes it sound like you watched the whole game: “Wow, John Parker Wilson’s scrambling ability really bailed out Bama in this game.” Because it did--a crucial third down scramble with under 3 minutes to go allowed the Tide to bleed the clock down to one second and keep hot hand Hawkins off the field.
Is this game anything? Meaning, does it have meaning for next year, college football and the world beyond? Sure. Alabama escapes paying $4 million for a losing season, and despite losing Colorado shows that they’re continuing to improve--322 yards and 3 TDs passing from freshman Cody Hawkins didn’t win, but it’s certainly not discouraging for the future.
