LiveBlog: Seahawks-Packers, first quarter

Chris Littmann breaks down the ongoing action of the Seahawks-Packers NFC Division Playoff matchup:
(Refresh page for the latest updates)
1:02
A critical drive for the Packers ends with a 1-yard touchdown dive by Ryan Grant. The drive was critical not only because it ties the game, 14-14, but the Packers re-established Grant, who ran for 49 yards on five carries.
4:46
Favre finds Bubba Franks for what appeared to be a first down. The officials spot it short, and the Packers wisely challenge the play. But hey, here’s a memo to FOX: Show the sideline view where the first-down marker was in plain view! ...
And the play is reversed, giving the Packers a critical first down.
And while we wait
I’m trying to find an accurate description of today’s weather on the web, because I’m not buying the description from weather.com of “light snow.” Prior to the game, it wasn’t falling hard enough to be a factor, but if it keeps up like this, and the field gets coated, where does the edge fall? Both teams really like to pass the ball, so it could be a push. FOX just had a great shot of the gunk being brushed off Patrick Kerney’s shoes. Expect plenty of slipping and sliding.
7:08
Favre to Greg Jennings, who clearly has become his favorite target over the course of this season. Greg wins the matchup of Jennings vs. Jennings (Kelly, for the Seahawks). Favre put it up, and Greg outmuscled Kelly to trim Seattle’s lead to 14-7. No shortage of action -- or offense -- to open this game.
8:29
Huge play with Favre hitting James Jones coming across the middle: 31 yards and now its first-and-10 from the 21. As they pointed out on the broadcast, Vernand Morency did an outstanding job of picking up the Seattle blitz. That was a big point of contention after last week’s win against the Redskins: Could the Seahawks pressure Favre into bad decisions?
And while we wait
OK, so the Seahawks are from Seattle, therefore we get Pearl Jam and Nirvana during commercial breaks when they score. Who does that leave us when the Packers get into the end zone?
10:59
After a huge third-down completion to Ben Obomanu, Matt Hasselbeck hits Bobby Engram between two Packers defenders in the end zone. Although the official did not signal force out, it was obvious that should’ve been the call. After Mike McCarthy attempted to challenge the call, the play was clarified. The Seahawks already lead 14-0. Hate to blame one guy, but this one is on you Ryan Grant.
12:22
The Seahawks are on the move, but there’s a slight break because Deion Branch -- who had been bothered by a calf injury -- goes down while making a move in his route. He really went down in a heap and immediately grabbed that upper calf/knee area. Either way, it doesn’t look good.
13:51
Just as I was ready to praise the Packers for getting the ground game going, we get another fumble from Ryan Grant. Nothing but a good hit from Brian Russell on that play.
14:33
The Packers are ready to try again after that disastrous start. Just an observation: The Packers slipped on the opening kickoff and then again on the screen pass to Ryan Grant. If that keeps up, it could be a big day when it comes to turnovers.
14:43
A screen pass to Ryan Grant goes horribly wrong. A fumble is picked up by Lofa Tatupu and returned to the Packers’ 1-yard line. Shaun Alexander does the rest of the work, plunging in to put the Seahawks up 7-0.
15:00 remaining
The Packers will start with the ball first. Revisiting the last big coin toss moment between the two teams always is fun.

Here’s what’s not fun: Josh Scobey being carted off the field after the opening kickoff with a lower leg injury of some sort.
Pregame thoughts
Thankfully the Washington State-UCLA game wasn’t all that close, and I’m able to flip channels with plenty of time to spare. Snow at Lambeau in the playoffs. Not like it’s a blizzard, but this should be a fun one. Injuries don’t seem to be a concern. D.J. Hackett and Deion Branch are out there for the Seahawks. The only semi-significant injury on the Green Bay sideline is Will Blackmon. They’ll get by. Quick aside: Wazzu made a charge, but still lost to UCLA.↵
