On Saturday, Tom Brady missed on only two passes against the Jaguars while completing 26 for 262 yards and three TDs in leading New England to a 31-20 victory, a 17-0 record and a trip to another AFC championship game.

On Sunday, he didn’t even play, but it was still a big day for his ever-increasing legend. The two quarterbacks to whom he’s most compared, one on the field and the other off the field, both couldn’t deliver wins as higher seeds at home. The Colts and the Cowboys simply didn’t make enough plays in the second half, while Brady quickly turned a 14-14 halftime with Jacksonville into just another comfortable victory in the Patriots’ precise march to peerless perfection. Speaking of peerless, there is no question at quarterback. The upsets in Indy and Dallas have Brady’s season/career -- and persona -- standing out more than ever. A closer look:
Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning
The debate is over. Brady is the better quarterback, hands down. Given similar talent to Manning in his receiving corps this season, Brady proved he could also be a prolific statistical quarterback, by trumping Manning yet again with the single-season record for TD passes. Manning had a bit of an opportunity to bridge the gap after winning the Super Bowl, but Brady’s about to make it 4-1 in that department. Forget Peyton -- it’s time to start considering if Brady is now better than his boyhood idol, Joe Montana.
Tom Brady vs. Tony Romo
Photos of Brady walking around New York City with Brazilian supermodel girlfriend Gisele Bundchen during the bye week even looked a lot classier than Romo’s cavorting with noted Chicken of the Sea consumer Jessica Simpson in Cabo. Despite dating a woman who’s consistently seen in her unmentionables, there was no mention of Brady and the Patriots being “distracted.” Romo was doing his best to wrestle the title of football’s ultimate golden boy playboy away from Brady, but like the case with Manning, every QB is a distant second to Brady.
And if you’re confused, here’s the “Chicken of the Sea†reference:
Brady Had a Pretty Good Sunday, Too
