Bonds and Britney Have So Much in Common

By Brian Powell
So you’re probably Mitchell Reported out like me by now, but I wanted to point out some of the more hilarious moments from yesterday’s Congressional hearing on the Mitchell Report and steroids. The whole event didn’t really unearth any new findings and ultimately became a two-hundred-plus minute snore fest, but the meeting did reveal two new up-and-coming Representatives that you need to be aware of.
First is Minnesota democrat Betty McCollum for her diatribe on how baseball is similar to entertainment, and made the dead-on comparison between Barry Bonds and Britney Spears. I don’t know if I could have made a better comparison myself. I guess they are both pretty inflated at this point in their lives.
Seriously though, it was almost like she was playing mad-libs. Give me a noun … “steroids.” Give me another noun ... “baseball.” Give me a proper noun … “Britney Spears” ... you get the idea.
As much as Ms. McCollum wanted to be the star, it was Connecticut republican Christopher Shays who stole the show. Mr. Shays referred to the 1919 Chicago Black Sox – you know, the ones who threw the World Series -- as the Chicago Black Hawks and then dropped an amazing question on George Mitchell:

Yep, these are the leaders of America. Big sports fans.↵
