FirstCuts: Weekend Shoe Game Roundup

Sports don’t start and end with a referee’s whistle. FirstCuts, a blog dedicated to sports culture, will cover everything outside the lines, from games to gear.
Just like with video games, a lot went on this weekend in the world of kicks. On Friday, we talked about the Jordan 10/13 Countdown Pack release. Unfortunately, as it often turns out with highly anticipated, sold out Jordan releases, a criminal element crept in and ruined the weekend for a few people.
A thief hit a line of customers waiting at Greenspoint Mall in the Houston area, taking wallets and other possessions before escaping, according to a report. Also, two teens were jumped in New Jersey for their Countdown Packs. Luckily, this story had a happy ending. Police recovered the shoes and the kids happened to flag down police to report the robbery. Thankfully, no serious injuries occurred in either incident, but let’s just say online shopping got a lot more attractive for the rest of ‘08 when it comes to Jordans.
Speaking of the Jordan XX3 release that’s coming up this week, our man Rich “MaZe” Lopez from KixAndTheCity.com caught up with Tinker Hatfield, the legendary Nike and Jordan designer, to talk about Jordan’s 23rd signature shoe. Check out the full audio interview over at KATC.
Last and least (priced), the New York Post has a story on the budget-priced Starburys hitting clearance racks at Steve and Barry’s. (Side note: There’s a clearance rack at a store that generally doesn’t charge more than $8 for anything?) I don’t have a Steve and Barry’s within a reasonable drive, but for winter clearance price of $7.99, it might be worth a look. Oh, and don’t forget Stephon Marbury could be ending his second consecutive season with a foot/ankle ailment. I’m just saying ...↵
