Yankees Pay a Lot of Money for Their Players

With the money it cost to field the Yankees in 2007, you could buy the entire MLB Team Formerly Known as the Devil Rays seven times over. Not that you’d want to because then you’d be stuck with seven losing teams, but you get the idea.

The Yanks top baseball’s payroll list for the ninth straight season, coming in at just a hair under the gross domestic product of Tonga. Or, in layman’s terms, $218.3 million. But they still managed to turn a small profit, as they brought in $415 million revenue.
Coming in second was Florida. Just kidding, they’re poor. Gross. Of course, second was Boston, with a payroll of “only” $155.4 million. The Dodgers, Mets and Cubs rounded out the top five.
Also worth noting: Six of the 10 teams with the lowest payrolls had winning records last season, while eight of the 10 highest paid teams were above .500. This unearths a shocking revelation: You can actually win with role players and team work, as opposed to overpaid bums who don’t play defense and strikeout 150 times.↵
