First of Many Awkward Bathroom Encounters

By Chris Mottram
Chris will be blogging from somewhere in Arizona all week where apparently a game is happening. He promises to not once mention anything that might actually occur on the field of play.⇥
So, before heading out to Media Day at the stadium in Glendale, we made a stop at the convention center in Phoenix to scoop up our credentials. This also happens to be where radio row and the media center are, so we made a quick stop to peep out the scene. I had already consumed several cups of coffee and was operating sans breakfast, so naturally, I had to use the boys room.
Without getting into too much detail, Rodney Peete walks in and positions himself in the urinal next to me. Being the triple threat that he is (athlete, television host, guest on FOX game show), I obviously recognize him. I need to say something – I’ll wait until we’re washing our hand, instead of mid-steam – but what to say to such a superstar? Okay, got it ...
Me: “You were on that show Moment of Truth, right?â€
Peete: “Yeah. You saw that?â€
Me: “Of course. Nice work.â€
Peete: “Thanks man. Yeah, it was fun. I’m just glad I wasn’t the one in that seat!â€
Me: [Internal monologue] “He totally didn’t use soap.â€
There you have it. My first Super Bowl “interview.†And it was with Rodney freakin’ Peete. In a bathroom.
Also of note: While I was in the bathroom, the guy I’m with (we shall refer to him simply as “The Bulldog†for reasons that are uninteresting, but I assure you are valid) saw Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of Mike and Mike in the Morning “fame†walk into radio row. As he passed the security guard at the entrance, Greenie said, “Do you have a taser? I wanna see [Golic] get tazed! He’s nothing without me.â€
Just don’t taze me, bro, and we’ll be okay.↵
