Sports don’t start and end with a referee’s whistle. FirstCuts, a blog dedicated to sports culture, will cover everything outside the lines, from the games to the gear.
I wouldn’t describe my time on an Xbox as “constructive†-- save the time I spend doing reviews for Sporting News -- but LSU and its quarterbacks are making their time with the controller count.

Tigers QBs Matt Flynn and Ryan Perrilloux are getting ready for their BCS title tilt against Ohio State by playing ... video games. That’s right, courtesy of XOS Technologies and EA Sports, LSU’s quarterbacks have a simulator to get acclimated with the opposition’s defense. They’re playing stripped-down versions of EA titles. No crowds or wacky celebrations. C’mon, you can’t let Matt Flynn moonwalk into the end zone after a good read that leads to a TD scramble?
This isn’t special for the title game -- they’ve been doing it all season long. The simulator is only available for quarterbacks, but simulators for other positions could be available in the future.
Either way, I’ll own them in NCAA Football ’08. I’m just throwing the challenge out there.
