LiveBlog: Giants-Bucs, third quarter

Vinnie Iyer breaks down the ongoing action of the Giants-Buccaneers first-round NFC playoff game:

Joey, if you’re hurting, so am I (1:40 left): Joey Galloway came into the game with a sore shoulder, and Jeff Garcia continues to get frustrated that he can’t get the ball to Galloway. It’s finally catching up to the Bucs that they don’t have other reliable big-play receivers. Two more incompletions toward Galloway, and another punt.
Where’s Jacobs? (4:24 left): I understand that Ahmad Bradshaw provides a change of pace, but Brandon Jacobs needs to be in the game now to pound on and wear down that Bucs’ defense with a 10-point lead. Eli Manning’s having a good game, but Jacobs is your two-TD, lead workhorse. Now the Giants have punted it away. I don’t think we’ll see a Bradshaw again until Terry in the FOX postgame.

Defined by Webster (6:10 left): The Bucs had something going like their second drive of the game by feeding Earnest Graham for six straight plays, but it was eventual Jeff Garcia would force something deeper to Joey Galloway. Galloway has been well covered, and Corey Webster was in position for an easy end zone pick. Oh yeah, Webster also recovered that kickoff fumble. Webster is your Giants’ D MVP.
Paying the penalty (9:56 left): The Giants pick the wrong time for their first two penalties of the game, first a false start and then a delay of game inside the Bucs’ 10, which stalls their would-be TD drive. Still, it’s a field goal, and it puts more pressure on Jeff Garcia to throw often. New York 17, Tampa Bay 7.
Bad luck for Spurlock (14:50 left): Bucs return man Micheal Spurlock will be remembered for producing the first kickoff return for a touchdown in franchise history, but he probably wants to forget that he just fumbled on the kickoff to start the second half. As if the Giants’ offense needed any more mo’, they probably will score starting from the Tampa 30. Expect New York’s size and power advantage to take over now.↵
