LiveBlog: Titans-Chargers, third quarter

Vinnie Iyer breaks down the ongoing action of the Titans-Chargers first-round AFC playoff game:

Chargers get a big play (2:35 left): Remember how well that Titans’ defensive line was playing? Well, its best player loses his cool, as tackle Albert Haynesworth hits Philip Rivers for a dead ball penalty and gives San Diego 15 free yards. Two plays later, it’s Rivers finding another wide receiver streaking down the middle wide open -- Vincent Jackson from 25 yards out. Just like the first meeting, it’s been a tale of two Rivers from half to half. The great one has shown up. San Diego 10, Tennessee 6.

Titans need a big play (6:29 left): The Titans have dominated most of the game with their line play on both sides of the ball, but it’s still a miniscule lead and they can’t afford to just run often and try to win based on field position. They have a chance, but some miscommunication by Vince Young and Justin Gage on a third down leads to a punt. Of course, the defense can provide that big play, too. The Chargers have the momentum, and need to sustain another long drive from their own 22.
All or nothing at all (9:41 left): The Chargers try to change the tempo with a little hurry-up on their first drive of the second half, but really, there wasn’t a rhythm. It pretty much was more of LaDainian Tomlinson getting stuffed, but more of the wide receivers streaking downfield open against the Titans’ zone coverage. This time, Philip Rivers executes for consistent big gains to Chris Chambers and Vincent Jackson, but near the goal line, things bog down, unable to run. It’s an unpopular decision to settle for the field goal, but there’s plenty of time left to overcome a three-point lead. Tennessee 6, San Diego 3.↵
