7:20 p.m. CST: At Ernst’s, the official Buckeye bar in NOLA, Les Miles appears on the screen and OSU fans raise a crowd of middle fingers to salute him.
7:29 p.m. Beanie Wells blows away from Craig Steltz for a TD, and suddenly it’s raining beer. One fan yells out “LSU is gay!” I had no idea sexual preference had anything to do with bad gap control on defense, but we’re all learning things tonight.
7:57 p.m. The real reason Ohio State fans wear official jerseys all the time: They all believe, that at any instant, they may be called on to fill in for an injured Buckeye. There’s nothing relaxing about the way OSU fans are watching this game.
8:15 p.m. LSU ties it, and paranoia begins to creep into the crowd.
“Why can’t we stop them? Their offense isn’t that good!”
“Tressel has the answer. Don’t worry, Tressel has the answer.”
8:42 p.m. The sound of a beer bottle breaking and the lighting of a constellation of cigarettes indicates that the inky hand of creeping doom has seized this crowd.
