BCS title game: Fourth quarter

Tom Dienhart breaks down the action of the BCS championship game, quarter by quarter:
What I learned: Boeckman isn’t ready for prime time, which is just what I thought. He had a few balls dropped and felt some pressure but also was off target and often held the ball too long. The horrible pick he threw with under six minutes to play doomed the Buckeyes. Aside from some great running by Wells, the Buckeye offense was largely ineffective, scoring on a big play (Wells’ first quarter run), a measly field goal and on defense (Malcolm Jenkins’ pick for six). Credit LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini for a job well done as he rides off to Nebraska.
Play of the quarter: Trailing 31-17 and facing 4th-and-7 from LSU’s 34-yard line, Ohio State went for it. It had to. There was just under 11 minutes to go in the game. It backfired. Boeckman dropped to pass, was flushed from the pocket sacked by Ali Highsmith. The ball spun loose and was picked up by Harry Coleman.
Stat of the quarter: 2, sacks by LSU. Each one produced a fumble—one of which was lost. While LSU was gashed for a few big plays, its defensive line controlled the Ohio State offensive line. That’s two years in a row the OSU big boys have been out classed by a stronger and faster SEC d-line.
Here’s an idea: Ohio State should clam up about being disrespected. Looks like that DVD Jim Tressel made for his players that featured snippets of media members ripping OSU this year didn’t work. That’s two years in a row the Buckeyes have been smoked in this game. In the future, just focus on yourself and what you have to do to improve. Don’t worry about what others think. It’s a waste of time.
Wow: Ryan Perrilloux hasn’t been much of a factor, playing just a handful of plays. Why? Because Flynn was so good passing and running. His best trait tonight: decision making. He played like a calm, cool veteran should in the biggest game of his life.
