New Orleans Diary: The Coda

Perhaps it meant doom for Ohio State from the start, since this OSU fan didn’t even get his SEC taunts straight--it’s Florida fans who are famous for allegedly wearing jorts, not LSU fans.
Even with the debacle, Ohio State fans helped LSU fans close out the quarter last night for the game. It was an exemplary display of sportsmanship on both sides; though celebratory high-fives often didn’t connect due to celebratory inebriation, the attempt was what counted. Fans from both sides got along swimmingly once the contest moved from football to beer pong.
As for the city itself, I’m all in favor of moving every BCS game to New Orleans forever. It’s the ideal venue for massive college football games: compact, loaded with hotels and great restaurants, colorful, and geared for mass hysteria of the benign and recreational sort. The BCS can bring them all here, as far as I’m concerned. It is the premiere venue for college football; everywhere else plays Ohio State to their LSU Tiger of a host city.↵
