The Hit That Keeps On Giving

By Vinnie Iyer
So I was sitting there with a couple friends, contemplating if we were going to go through with our typical New Year’s Eve Eve wacky wee-hour outing, in desperate need of a wake-up call. Well, you could say “we got jacked up!” just in time, just by watching the Colts-Titans Sunday night NFL regular-season finale.
Thank you Titans rookie running back Chris Henry, for being knocked flat on your kickoff “return” by the “smackle” (half smack, half tackle) of Colts backup defensive tackle Darrell Reid. That made it OK for me to party like the other Chris Henry (within the limits of the law, of course) and know that you would still be the one with the bigger headache about 24 hours later.

Funny thing, it’s now become much more than a belated Christmas gift to witness such a slobberknocker. It keeps on giving well into the New Year.
I appreciate the fact that most of the Colts can make a fundamental smackle while other teams’ defenders go the cheap helmet-to-helmet and horse-collar routes. Now, if they can only remember to do just that the second time around against Chargers little bugger Darren Sproles. . . .
