Colt McCoy and OU’s Punter in a Flop-off

â†µFor a second time during this second half, freshman â†µOklahoma backer Travis Lewis got hit for a critical â†µunnecessary roughness for “hitting” Texas QB Colt McCoy on â†µthe sideline. On both plays, Lewis barely touched McCoy -- â†µthe Longhorn looked like he slipped out of bounds on the â†µfirst edition, and McCoy seemed to actually flop down on â†µthe second one.

â†µHow blatant was it? QB apologist Kirk Herbstreit called out â†µboth bad calls. And Brent Musberger has been positively â†µapopletic about everything in black and white: he asserted â†µon both penalties that flags wouldn’t have been thrown if â†µthe tackles had happened on the Oklahoma’s sideline instead â†µof that of Texas. He’s saying the refs are susceptible to â†µfear of being yelled at by Mack Brown, or that they would â†µbe afraid to get yelled at by Bob Stoops.

â†µTwo more awful calls: Oklahoma’s first TD didn’t break the â†µplane and should have set up 4th and goal for the Sooners, â†µand, with the score 28-27 Oklahoma, a clear interception by â†µa Sooners d-back in the end zone was called an â†µincompletion. Texas immediately hit a field goal to take â†µits first lead at 30-28 heading into the fourth â†µquarter.

â†µTurnabout is fair play: Oklahoma punter Mike Knall has â†µfaked his way into two roughing the kicker calls, including â†µa simply atrocious flop with a faked injury flourish early â†µin the fourth. Oklahoma first down and, eventually, â†µtouchdown. 35-30.
