Heads Are Rollin’ in the Bronx!

Finally, the knee-jerk reaction we’ve awaited from the Yankees front office has arrived. Today, they announced that everyone who had a hand in the Yanks abysmal season -- starting at the very top -- can pack up their crap and get the hell out!↵↵⇥Third-base coach Bobby Meacham and special pitching instructor Rich Monteleone were fired Tuesday by the New York Yankees.↵⇥↵⇥Meacham spent six seasons as a player with the Yankees and was hired last November when Joe Girardi replaced Joe Torre as manager. Meacham had been Girardi’s third-base coach with Florida in 2006, then was first-base coach with San Diego in 2007.↵⇥
↵↵Oh snap! They just got straight to the source of the problem and ... wait. They fired who? The third-base coach and special pitching instructer? I’ve never even heard of a special pitching instructor. Or Rich Monteleone, for that matter. Wikipedia, help me out: “Rich Monteleone holds the Major League career record for most pitching appearances without a start or a save.” Impressive.↵↵I’m not saying that Joe Girardi is necessarily to blame for the Yankees missing the playoffs, or that he should be fired, but there’s no way Meacham and Monteleone are to blame. And is removing those two really the shake-up that’s gonna spark success in New York? I just don’t see A-Rod spending an extra hour in the cages each day during the offseason because, well, if they have the nerve to just up and fire someone as vital as the special pitching instructor, then hell, they could fire anyone at anytime. Everyone is on notice! ↵
