Brett Favre’s Words Give Tony Romo the Strength to Play Through Broken Pinkie

On Monday, the news was that Tony Romo would be out at least four weeks with a broken pinkie, suffered during Sunday’s loss in Arizona. On Tuesday, Brett Favre called Romo and more or less said “play through it, pansy”:↵↵⇥“The only thing I said was, it’s worth trying [to play] if you can deal with the pain and can function good enough with a splint,” Favre said. “If not, don’t try.”↵↵Seeing as Favre once played through a broken thumb, it was basically a challenge to Romo: Favre’s man enough to handle the pain, are you? Well, it seems that Romo can handle it. Or at least try to:↵↵⇥The quarterback informed coaches on Wednesday that he is ready to play Sunday against the St. Louis Rams, a high-ranking Cowboys source told ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley.↵↵We ran an office experiment on this yesterday, as several people attempted to throw a football without their pinkie. We’re pretty busy around here. The result: Yes, throwing a football with four fingers is so easy, even online sports writers can do it. Granted, it was a softball-sized Nerf football being thrown about 10 feet, without the added pressure of 350-pound lineman bearing down on them or T.O. crying for the football. But other than that, it was a totally accurate Romo-sans-pinkie test. ↵↵What I’m trying to say is Romo will be just fine if he participates on Sunday, mostly because they’re playing the Rams. Throw pretty much any 11 guys out there and they’ll beat St. Louis. Just ask the Redskins. ↵
