Morrison Gets Richer Despite Being a Total Bust

Jared Dudley is a hard-working sleeper who has settled nicely into the Bobcats’ injury-plagued big man rotation, and might even deserve a starting role. Adam Morrison is such a big bust, he’s a bigger bust than some #1 overall picks. Like, who would you rather have now, Morrison or Kwame Brown, who is at least tall and athletic.↵
↵
↵Nevertheless, the Bobcats have picked up the options on both men, albeit for very different reasons. From The Charlotte Observer:↵↵⇥Adam Morrison got about $5 million richer Wednesday and – at least by the technicalities of NBA rules – a little easier to trade ... Also, not exercising that option would have given Morrison veto power, should the Bobcats seek to trade him. He is playing under a one-year option, in the third season of his rookie-scale contract.↵↵

And about Dudley:↵↵⇥It was no surprise the Bobcats exercised the option on Dudley, the 22nd pick in the 2007 draft. He’s scrappy, defense-oriented and good at chasing down loose balls. Coach Larry Brown called Dudley the most pleasant surprise on the roster this preseason.↵↵So there you have it. A total waste of a player gets $5 million because someone in the league might be dumb enough to trade for him, or is that desperate for cap space. And, to not be total pricks, the front office pointed out that Morrison has yet to really get started -- though something tells me Larry Brown will eat him alive with one hand, as he anoints Dudley with the other. But we’re still talking about J.J. Redick, so maybe I just don’t get how hard it is for some fans, and some members of the media, to let college memories die. Hopefully, there’s not a single GM who’s that sentimental.↵
