Perhaps You’d Like to Play QB for VA Tech

Can you take a snap from under center? How’s your ability to hand off to a running back? Can you throw the ball 15 yards with velocity ... any velocity, really?

↵↵If your answer is “yes” to any of the preceding questions, consider auditioning to be Virginia Tech’s next quarterback, because as of this moment the Hokies happen to be a bit short in this department. Following an injury to Tyrod Taylor on the first play of the game and a subsequent injury to back-up QB Sean Glennon, Frank Beamer went to the bench ... deep into the bench, as in playing wideouts and tight ends who hadn’t taken a snap under center since high school.↵

↵↵Heather Dinich reports that both Taylor and Glennon are hobbling around in boots this week as a result of some violent cuddling with the Florida State defense this past weekend. They are both questionable for the game against Maryland this Saturday, sending the spare parts squad under center for the Hokies. The spare parts in question are rusty to an extreme:↵

↵↵⇥Fifth-year senior Cory Holt, a former wide receiver who hadn’t played significant time until he finished the game Saturday, will continue to get reps as will starting tight end Greg Boone -- a quarterback in high school.↵↵You may be somewhat reluctant to tryout, but relax. You’ve been doing 30 minutes on the elliptical machine for three weeks or so after forgetting to go to the gym for six months. I’m sure you’re ready for this. Plus, you’ll be playing Maryland, meaning anything could happen, including your first victory as a collegiate quarterback, dude. Or should I call you ... Rudy, you walk-on wonder, you?↵
