Ty Willingham Out at Washington

In the second least controversial coaching termination of the year, Ty Willingham has resigned as football coach at the University of Washington.↵↵Let’s speak kindly of those who will be departed at the end of the season, at least: Willingham inherited a program at rock bottom and took it into a state of simple badness, which can constitute some kind of achievement. He did recruit the West Coast Tebow, Jake Locker, who will hopefully be put to good use by the next coaching staff. And he did once come very close to beating Cal, a game that gave us the epic Marshawn Lynch Go Cart Adventure. So, we do owe him that.↵
↵↵Besides that and players who rarely got into trouble, Ty failed to win games at a consistent and troubling rate: 11-32 overall is bad, but the 6-24 record in conference is worse. Add in a change of athletic director at U-Dub, finishing dead last in the Pac-10 two out of three seasons, an 0-7 start in 2008 and Willingham had exactly zero chance of surviving the coming winter.↵
↵↵(The first least controversial coaching termination of the year? Greg Robinson, a coach whose employer has already hired a search agent to find his replacement.)↵
