Houston Receiver’s Leg Snaps; Blame the Band

I was in band. Let’s get that out of the way first. I was even in band in college, a great way to watch free football, with the only price coming in wearing 10 pounds of wool/poly blend uniform in subtropical heat.
↵
↵ As a band member, when it came to the game at least, you had one enduring wish: to never, ever, for any reason whatsoever impact the game. Ever. Nightmare stories existed about bands who had cost their team 15 yards by playing at the wrong time, thus putting their team in football jeopardy and themselves at risk of being beat to pudding by huge, angry men. I am unsure if this ever actually happened, but the nightmare vision of me in a sweaty uniform leaden with the weight of three hours’ sweat running down a dead-end alley pursued by linebackers was enough to make the story truthful and fearsome enough.↵
↵
↵This is a nightmare scenario for two reasons:↵

First, Houston WR Patrick Edwards’ possibly bright prospects as a football player have significantly dimmed as a result of this injury; that should be mentioned first here, since the Houston receiver suffered “a serious leg injury” on the play and will miss the rest of the season at the very least (if he can return at all). Second, that cart sitting in the endzone belongs to the Marshall band, who may have cost the university a lot of money by leaving their equipment willy-nilly all over the place:↵↵⇥“It was duly noted and I think we’ll save the conversation for another day,” [UH athletic director Dave] Maggard said. “I don’t think there is any question that it is a problem. We all noticed it, and we want to find out why something like that would occur. It was a serious injury, no question about it.”↵↵Smells like the distinct, savory odor of a lawsuit frying in the hot oil of negligence.
