LSU-Bama Game Leads to Trash Talk, Homicide

Just in the past couple weeks alone we’ve had two examples of trash talking amongst SEC fans ending less than favorable. Two weeks ago, there was the white fan who left a noose for his black co-worker to find following LSU’s loss to Georgia. Then there was the Gator fan that was arrested after assaulting her husband, a Georgia fan.↵↵Both of those, however, were relatively harmless insomuch as no one was killed. Two Alabama fans were not so lucky on Saturday, following the Tide’s overtime win against LSU:↵

↵↵⇥An Escambia County couple died Saturday after an argument over the Alabama/LSU football game ended in shotgun blasts, according to Conecuh County authorities. ↵⇥↵⇥Investigators said witnesses told them that Dennis Smith, an LSU fan, called Williams, a fan of the Crimson Tide, after the game Saturday evening and an argument ensued. Officers said Donna Smith was a relative of Michael Williams’ girlfriend. ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Soon, the Smiths arrived at Williams’ home and the men wound up in a physical altercation, officers said. ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Smith retrieved a pistol from his vehicle, and threatened Williams, who armed himself with a shotgun and fired two blasts, striking and killing Dennis Smith, officers said. ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Donna Smith then threatened Williams, who shot and killed the woman, they said. ↵⇥

↵↵There is an apt metaphor here that applies to the LSU-Bama game on the field, as well: Don’t bring a pistol to a shotgun fight. You will lose every time. Although you cannot argue with the passion of those SEC fans. They are literally willing to kill for their team.↵
