Donovan McNabb: There are Ties in the NFL?

Eagles QB Donovan McNabb has been around a while. He ↵entered the NFL in 1999. There’s only been one tie since ↵the start of his career (a 2002 Falcons-Steelers game), but it ↵seems like rather common knowledge that if two teams are ↵tied at the end of the 15-minute sudden death overtime, you ↵get a tie. I mean, NFL standings have a column demarked ↵with a ‘T’ which comes after ‘W’ and ‘L.’ It seems rather ↵self-explanatory.
↵
↵The 700 Level watched McNabb’s post-tie press conference, ↵where McNabb revealed he had no idea until the ↵game ended that you can have a tie in the NFL.

↵
↵The QB did not know during overtime that the game could end ↵in a tie. If I’m parsing the soundbite correctly, McNabb ↵wasn’t aware of the possibility as he threw Philadelphia’s ↵last gasp Hail Mary. This seems important, like your ↵strategy or mindset might be altered if you knew the game ↵was ending on a given play.
↵
↵I find it hard to blame Andy Reid or the Philadelphia ↵coaching staff ... unless they also did not realize you ↵could have a tie. That seems like something you wouldn’t ↵need to tell your 31-year-old veteran QB.↵
