Donovan McNabb: There are Ties in the NFL?

Eagles QB Donovan McNabb has been around a while. He â†µentered the NFL in 1999. There’s only been one tie since â†µthe start of his career (a 2002 Falcons-Steelers game), but it â†µseems like rather common knowledge that if two teams are â†µtied at the end of the 15-minute sudden death overtime, you â†µget a tie. I mean, NFL standings have a column demarked â†µwith a ‘T’ which comes after ‘W’ and ‘L.’ It seems rather â†µself-explanatory.

â†µThe 700 Level watched McNabb’s post-tie press conference, â†µwhere McNabb revealed he had no idea until the â†µgame ended that you can have a tie in the NFL.

â†µThe QB did not know during overtime that the game could end â†µin a tie. If I’m parsing the soundbite correctly, McNabb â†µwasn’t aware of the possibility as he threw Philadelphia’s â†µlast gasp Hail Mary. This seems important, like your â†µstrategy or mindset might be altered if you knew the game â†µwas ending on a given play.

â†µI find it hard to blame Andy Reid or the Philadelphia â†µcoaching staff ... unless they also did not realize you â†µcould have a tie. That seems like something you wouldn’t â†µneed to tell your 31-year-old veteran QB.â†µ
