Favre Rescued By J.P. Losman

↵Don’t let the 31-27 final fool you: the Jets beat Buffalo simply because the Bills made the last critical error. Perhaps if New York would have tried to do more than run out the clock up four with 90 seconds left, Buffalo could have captured victory. The final non-Hail Mary critical play of the game came as J.P. Losman -- with Buffalo leading 27-24 and only two minutes left -- got crushed on a second down. Losman dropped the ball, Jet Shaun Ellis grabbed and scampered for the deciding touchdown.

↵Brett Favre had done what he could to get Losman a win, though: The Gunslinger had two interceptions which led to Buffalo scoring drives. But Losman just provided too much awful: J.P. dropped the ball three times (losing the crucial one) and offered three interceptions. His longest completion was a 14-yard dart (DART!) to Josh Reed.

↵The Favre hate comes tongue in cheek: the win kept N.Y. tied for the AFC East lead with Miami. A few hours after this post’s publication, New England will make it a three-way at the top with a win over the Raiders. Chad Pennington’s continued mistake-free success in Miami has dampened the view of Favre’s impact for most, but it’s easy to understate the effect of Favre’s boyish nature and butt slaps on the rest of the Jets. If nothing else, Favre is the best on-field cheerleader the Jets have ever had.↵
