Don’t Let Them Take Our Becks!

↵The headline is not meant to accuse the Italians of thievery upon David Beckham’s flight from Major League Soccer. It is directed at the terrorists who reportedly have targeted Becks and his AC Milan teammates in a plot to be hatched in Dubai. AC Milan will be in Dubai next week to train and play a friendly against a German club. Goal.com quotes a foreign publication on the matter.↵↵⇥A member of the Beckham security team told the Daily Star: “This is a big headache for us and we are taking his visit as if he was a head of state. The security measures will be stepped up and we are concerned about public appearances for example when meeting fans or signing autographs. The fans want to meet Beckham and this is a great risk for us. The risk of an attack is potentially high.”↵↵Wait ... you’re telling me Becks is not a head of state? You could have fooled everyone in Los Angeles. In all seriousness, this tells you a lot about the stature Beckham maintains worldwide, despite his flagging on-field production. I mean, Kobe Bryant or Tom Brady don’t have terrorists plotting against them. Michael Phelps doesn’t need stepped-up security measures. I mean, the only American athlete who can compare is Pacman Jones, who draws the attention of every security guard in a one-mile radius when he is out.↵
