The Ocho Preview Cuatro: Davidson - Kansas

You aren’t going to find many people rooting for Kansas in this game. I would venture to say that even some Rock Chalk fans might be thinking “weeeell, if we have to lose, at least let’s lose to Davidson.” Okay, maybe not, but in case it’s not obvious by the horrid overuse of “Davidson v. Goliath!” so far, Stephen Curry and the Wildcats are everyone’s favorite Cinderella.
It wasn’t that hard to see this Davidson run coming if you were lucky enough to cover them during the regular season. But it was just obvious that Bill Self was going to have a stout Kansas team, and they’ve done nothing all season to keep us from thinking they can win it all. But Self has never been past the Elite Eight.
Of course, a 10 seed has never been to Final Four either, so clearly, something’s gotta give. We’re getting Gus Johnson and Len Elmore on the call, which means that Curry is going to get some Rise n’ Fire man-love all afternoon. By the way, it just occurred to me that Curry might not have ever shaved his face. Awesome.
Of course, in fairness, Curry’s not all the ‘Cats have -- MPG (Max, to those that know him) is a superb defender and Andrew Lovedale is going to need a nice game inside if Davidson wants to advance. I’ll go ahead and pencil in Jason Richards for a 10-10 afternoon. But I think his turnovers, with the over/under at six, are going to decide how close Davidson stays to the Jayhawks.
Davidson’s run probably stops here, although I’m painfully aware of the spoonful of irony that would be served up if the Wildcats took my brackets down by beating Kansas. Still, the Jayhawks, with four starters that averaged double figures during the regular season, are too balanced for Davidson. The Cats are getting 10 points but Kansas is still the play; they’re so far ahead of Georgetown and Wisconsin offensively (and Gonzaga defensively) that it’s going to look like a different Davidson team.↵
