Motorcycler Cheats Us Out of Seeing Fiery Crash

By Spencer Hall
Motorcycle racing is for those who adore the sensation of flying on their back across giant cheese graters. Oh, sure, there’s the thrill of competition, the whoosh of the wind through your ears, and the roar of the crowd as you rip across the finish line.
But we work on the internet, where every offer is for a free iPod nano, every guy holding a firework is about to burst into flames or get kicked in the crotch and burst into flames, and every motorcycle racer is seconds away from flying sideways across the ground at a hundred miles per hour.
Okay, almost every motorcycle racer is bound to crash. Some just come within inches of disaster and then improbably work their way out of it.

That he’s got the nerves to balance the whole thing and save the bike is “ONIONS!” enough. (Sorry--lots of Bill Raftery on the brain lately.) The playing to the crowd afterwards, though? That’s where greatness begins to roll in its own gravy.↵
