Line judges in tennis are blind as bats.↵There’s an article in today’s UK Guardian about a recent study of line judges’ calls in the challenge era of tennis:↵↵⇥An analysis of challenges by players in 15 professional tennis tournaments in 2006 and 2007 has found that line judges are wrong nearly 40% of the times when they are challenged.↵↵Of course, this doesn’t mean that line judges are simply wrong with 40% of their calls across the board, because generally challenges are brought up only on the closest of calls, within 10 centimeters of the line, according to the study. ↵↵On those calls, however, judges are on the short side of a 60/40 split. The pits of the world? Maybe not. But not exactly reassuring either. No doubt Johnny Mac, wherever he may roam, is bellowing a titanic “I TOLD YOU SO!” to the heavens as I write this. All of these near-sighted jerks below – in retrospect it seems they got exactly what they deserved.↵
