What Your Television Is Doing This Weekend

The NFL Draft

↵ESPN and the NFL Network are your destinations starting at 3pm on Saturday for the draft, but if you’re a diehard fan of the selection process, ESPN’s 29th year of coverage kicks of on ESPN Radio at the bright and early time of 7am. ESPN’s coverage will also be featured on 14 different platforms and feature a staggering 16 hours of live television. That’s nothing compared to the NFL Network, who will have a total of 24 hours of draft coverage in the two days combined.↵

↵↵ESPN:
↵Chris Berman and Mel Kiper Jr. will lead a team of analysts and reporters for the 16 hours of live coverage April 26-27 on ESPN and ESPN2. Saturday's four-hour SportsCenter Special: On the Clock at 11 a.m. will kickoff the day before the focus shifts to Radio City Music Hall when the NFL Draft telecast will begin at its new time of 3 p.m. Day 1 coverage will switch to ESPN2 at 8 p.m. and last until the conclusion of round 2. ESPN will televise all eight hours Sunday (10 a.m. – 6 p.m.) with Trey Wingo hosting from New York for the first time, along with Cris Carter, Ron Jaworski, Kiper and Chris Mortensen, as well as a panel of NFL writers contributing from Bristol. ↵

↵↵NBA Playoffs:
↵According to Nielsen numbers, the NBA Playoffs have been killing in the ratings. TNT's ratings are up 16% compared to last year, while ESPN has been posting strong increases all season (14% overall). So what gives? Why are people watching all of a sudden? Probably because this is the best set of first round matchups the NBA has ever seen.↵Outside of the Celtics-Hawks series, all of the matchups could, and probably will go to, at least six games. You have the best storylines in quite some time (Old- Kidd vs. New- Paul, Cavs-Wizards, Kobe-A.I.), and the West has the Suns versus the Spurs in the first round, which could be the single best first round matchup of all-time. So what does that mean for the weekend? Likely more of the same. ESPN/ABC appears to have the better set of games, but TNT gets a Lakers-Nuggets Game 3 which should get a ton of viewers. ↵
