SBNation NFL Mock Draft, Pick 63: The New York Giants Select...

No. 63
Pick by Big Blue View

Orlando Scandrick
Cornerback
Boise State

With the 63rd selection of the 2008 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the New York Giants have selected Boise State cornerback Orlando Scandrick. ETVal of Big Blue View made the pick and here’s his explanation:

Like with the first round, the second round of our mock did not work out exactly the way I had hoped. Tyrell Johnson, the Arkansas State safety, would have been a guy I would have snagged without hesitation since Kenny Phillips of Miami was not available in Round 1.

But, the Cowboys grabbed him 2 picks ahead of the Giants. So, I went with Scandrick. He’s not huge at 5-10, 192, but he is a press coverage guy with huge upside and should fit with the style of defense the Giants like to play.

New York landed Aaron Ross No. 1 last season, but there are still questions about the age of Sam Madison and the reliability of Corey Webster. So, this is a pick that should help upgrade another key position on the Giants defense.

Matt Miller, host of this site as well as owner of New Era Scouting, provides his analysis below:

It's hard to argue with this pick. Scandrick is a bit undersized, but a very good and fluid athlete. The pick of Scandrick may mean Corey Webster's days in New York are numbered.

Grade: TBA :: Orlando Scandrick Scouting Report - New Era Scouting :: Matt Miller's Top Five Prospects Remaining: 1. LB Shawn Crable, 2. RB Jamaal Charles, 3. TE Fred Davis, 4. TE Martin Rucker, 5. OT Barry Richardson

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.

It’s a high-potential pick for a Detroit defense that needs a solid pass rusher.
