2008 NFL Draft: Where have all the Wide Receivers gone?

When Drafts are weak, teams tend to flock toward the safe positions. In this case, Offensive and Defensive Linemen. We’ve seen 13 linemen goi in the first 27 picks, including some that were never projected as first round guys.

Tennessee, a team so desperate for weapons at receiver, felt that this draft was so weak at the position that they took Chris Johnson, a running back that they don’t really need. Buffalo could of had their pick of any receiver, they go with a sure thing cornerback.

Imagine being one of the cameramen in DeSean Jackson’s house right now? Imagine being Malcolm Kelly, sitting there waiting for a phone call that probably will not come until tomorrow, all because of his poor behavior after his pro-day. There’s only a few more picks left in the first round and the draft day for all the “top” receivers is a disaster. Mario Manningham wakes up to the whole world finding about his score of 6 on the wonderlic exam.

There’s three picks left in the first round, none will take a receiver. Without doing the research, there’s not been a draft in a very long time without a receiver selected in the first round.

Between the character issues, toughness issues, and just the disappointing field of receivers, and the ambiguity about rating each pass catcher, it’s no surprise that they’re all falling as a group. There will be top five receiver selected in the third round. Where have all the talented receivers gone?
