Mark Jackson, Kenny Smith Returning to N.Y.?

Donnie Walsh is a serious man who does serious things. So what if he might make Mark Jackson, who doesn’t have any experience in any sector of coaching, the lord of the Knicks? He did the same thing for Larry Bird, and that turned out pretty awesome.↵
↵
↵But now, with the general manager position also needing to be filled, things are getting a little strange. From the Daily News:↵↵⇥Kenny Smith confirmed Sunday that he will interview for the Knicks general manager job this week.
↵⇥
↵⇥Smith, who attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, is scheduled to meet with Knicks president Donnie Walsh. During TNT’s studio show Sunday, Smith was evasive about his interest in the Knicks but when host Ernie Johnson asked him about The News report that he would be meeting with Walsh, Smith smiled and said, “There is a possibility.”↵↵Again, I have the utmost respect for Walsh’s basketball acumen, and Smith has long wanted to work in a front office. But filling two major positions of a struggling franchise with a pair of favorite son point guards who have no track record? It sounds like some sort of McDonald’s promotion, or a movie that teaches you about what really matters in life.
↵
↵Incidentally, it’s kind of rad to note that, later in the article, we learn that Billy King’s stock “has soared in recent weeks.” I know he assembled this team that’s playing so well, but all he’s done is draft athletes and then pawn off one of the era’s greatest players for a good, not great, point guard. I know everyone thinks this team is doing a hell of a job, but to me it feels like Mo Cheeks threw up his arms and said “what else can we do but run, jump and harass people”?↵
