D’Antoni Apparently Done in Phoenix

Last night’s Phoenix loss left me with all sorts of feelings: Boredom, sadness, resignation, and most of all, dread. That, with all the cards on the table and table’s legs falling apart like that, this was it for the Suns. But what would change? They’re stuck with Shaq. Nash is their brains and engine. Amare the emergent monster. And D’Antoni, well, he’s the one who came up with the whole shebang.↵

↵According to big-time Suns insider Jack McCallum, it’s D’Antoni who’s on his way out of town:↵↵⇥D’Antoni did not address his own situation. But sources within the organization confirm that D’Antoni feels he does not have the backing of upper management --specifically owner Robert Sarver and general manager Steve Kerr -- and considers the situation irredeemable.↵↵McCallum goes on to pick away at that “direction of the team” question. D’Antonio claimed he was behind the Shaq trade, even spoke up loudest for it. But what a sad, average team his once-glorious Suns looked in this perfunctory dismissal. This was not D’Antoni’s team, not suited to his philosophy or style, and all-in-all, a bummer for anyone who gravitated toward this team over the last five years.↵
↵
↵The question is, where? Chicago’s in there, which would at least mean more Tyrus Thomas. The Knicks rumors has actually been around for a few days, but it seems like that would require Walsh milking an awful lot out of his credibility. And plus, D’Antoni is going to want some say in personnel. Whatever, for now, it’s a sad day for us all.↵
