Weekend Tube Review: Enough, Van Gundy

NBA Playoffs:â†µ

â†µAside from being dead wrong in predicting that all the series favorites would win their games over the weekend, it was still a pretty good set of games. We had one overtime game, a close win by a road team, and another star was injured ultimately changing the complexion of the Lakers-Jazz series.â†µâ†µWhile most of the announcers have been rather impressive this postseason, there’s one individual that is heading in the opposite direction. Jeff Van Gundy started out as a good addition to the team of Mike Breen and Mark Jackson. The duo had always been overly serious about the game and really seemed to not enjoy each other’s company. JVG’s injection of humor and analysis seemed to have worked over the past year. Well, now it’s all that the ex-coach does. He rarely analyzes the game anymore and he takes every opportunity to joke about coaches, players, situations, and even his partners in the booth. â†µ

â†µâ†µThere’s definitely a place and time for humor within a broadcast, but during close games in the Playoffs it gets extremely annoying when it’s forced. I’ve really found it hard to say anything bad about any of the broadcast teams and announcers this NBA Playoffs, but Van Gundy’s act is growing old.â†µ

â†µBaseball:
â†µIt's pretty hard to find good videos or soundbytes from a weekend when Joe Buck or Tim McCarver isn't involved, but this should do the trick. One of the more en vogue ideas that has flooded sports over the past few years has been the in-game coach interview. ESPN does this with each manager during Sunday Night Baseball, and if you're the subject of the interview you should always be wary of what's going on behind you. (H/T: Babes Love Baseball.)
