The Odd Campaign in Favor of the Knicks Drafting Chris Douglas-Roberts

My man Joey, host of the forever excellent Straight Bangin’, is as passionate a Knicks fan as I know. He’s also prone to develop very complicated attachments to somewhat unlikely players, like when he told me James Jones was one of his ten favorites in the league. At the intersection of these two pursuits is his new movement: To get the Knicks to draft Memphis’s Chris Douglas-Roberts:↵↵⇥The Knicks will most likely be playing a style of ball in which versatility is emphasized, slashing and hitting jumpers becomes the currency of success, and play making at both ends takes on special significance in the wide-open scheme. CDR appears well suited to fill a role in this schematic. Further, he has some familiarity with an up-tempo and loosely structured system, so his learning curve may be flatter than most rookies’, and he could perhaps contribute to a turnaround right away.↵↵There’s plenty more there on CDR, and how this pick would be a welcome antidote to the evils of modern-day scouting. Oh, and he quotes me. All in all, a wonderful read and a noble cause.↵
↵
↵On a related note, Draft Express has an interview up with CDR, getting into what Douglas-Roberts is doing to better himself, pre-draft. If all this comes to pass, his stock could skyrocket, and Joey’s dream of the Knicks taking him at #6 might not longer be such a reach. Or so in need of an online campaign.↵
