Nuggets, Pistons Seem Destined to Make a Deal

I don’t know a whole lot about physics, but I’ve heard that opposites attract, or something. So it is with the rosters of the Nuggets and Pistons, both of which lay in shambles after disappointing playoff exits. Okay, scratch that — Detroit’s not exactly in shambles, but is aging and has young guys Dumars wants to get out on the floor. Denver, on the other hand, has a massive assemblage of talent that’s unable to put it all together.↵

↵Carmelo’s agent swears he’s sticking around. But when Dumars states that “Everybody is in play. There are no sacred cows here”, it’s hard to not fire up the ol’ trade machine. Especially when Denver has so much offense and edge, Detroit so much defense and composure, and the average of the two teams is enough to contend for a championship.↵

Take Woody Paige worth a grain of salt, but today, he’s suggesting that Melo get swapped for Billups, more or less. I’ve also heard Melo for Sheed and Prince. Camby is in play. It seems like Iverson is off the table, because his age makes him less desirable, his $22 million option for 2008-09 could go either way, and he’s Allen Freakin’ Iverson. All specifics aside, what really fascinates me is the element of destiny in all this. It’s like these two teams have their limitations but have found each other. And therein lies their salvation.↵
