Celtics Fail to Put the Finals Out of Its Misery

↵
↵I guess the real question now is, at what point do we start caring again? By winning last night, the Lakers made it 2-3. Granted, they nearly got sandbagged by another giant Celtic comeback, albeit one that happened early on. And little in that game suggested LA’s finest were close to finding their groove. Gasol and Odom carried the day with modest consistency; Kobe started the game with a flourish and won it with a late steal/dunk, but was hardly a dominant presence throughout.↵

I know a lot of people — myself included — who wanted a Boston win last night as a form of euthanasia. One friend wished it so he could “be spared a home floor Celtics celebration,” but really, it’s just that feeling that you’re watching basketball that will ultimately lead nowhere. I saw nothing last night to make me feel that the Lakers could win two straight in Boston. And in that sense, we’re all waiting around for the Lakers, and the 2007-08, to get finished. [Insert Mortal Kombat joke here.]↵
↵
↵I don’t buy the “anything to make the season stretch along” argument, since these feel like the Lakers, and us viewers, are being strung along. Boston’s the better team, and at home should roll. If they don’t, well, I won’t think less of them, or feel like the Lakers have a shot. No, I’ll mostly resent them for not going ahead, handling their business, and letting me get on with preparing more for the draft.↵
