Official Death Knell of the Phoenix Suns

Remember the Phoenix Suns? They were the buzz team of this decade, at least since the Jason Wiliams Kings or doomed Brand/Odom Clippers. Then, they sold their souls for Shaquille O’Neal and a shot at (supposedly) taking out the plodding, wise favorites San Antonio Spurs. That backfired times two: San Antonio dispensed with them in the first round, went on to have problems with up-tempo teams like New Orleans and the Lakers, who eliminated them. Coach D’Antoni left the building, and really, this team needs to blow it all up. Soon.↵

↵Want proof that heaven agrees with me? Check out these fateful few lines from The Arizona Republic:↵↵⇥Retired guard Allan Houston was not part of the draft workout, but he might be part of the Suns’ plans. Houston has been a recent regular for workouts at US Airways Center.
↵⇥
↵⇥Houston, who retired in 2005 because of knee problems, visited Suns forward and former teammate Grant Hill in April to see what the Suns’ acclaimed athletic trainers did for him and others with tough health histories.↵↵How’s that for uplifting? Three or four years ago, this team was the future. Young, dynamic, and visionary. Now, it’s the oldest non-Spurs team, relying heavily on the health of jump-shooting Grant Hill and, if things really go their way, the return of Allan Houston. Obviously, this is all moving toward a Steve Kerr comeback that will put this team back on the map.↵
