Digging Deeeep Into the Lakers, Celts Benches

Yesterday, Empty the Bench had two excellent posts on what role players could impact these Finals. But that wasn’t enough for yours truly. Instead, I want to look out to the very pale of these rosters, and see what, if any, hidden treasures stir there. Consider this a maimed follow-up to my “which Big Three is better” post.↵

↵On the side of the Lakers, you’ve got Ira Newble, who suposedly has gotten PT elsewhere over the years, and might have been brought on to provide veteran intangibles in case the kids faltered. Coby Karl, whose name sounds like Kobe. D.J. Mbenga, mandated by ABC for his amazing back story -- as long as he’s on the bench, or gets a second on the court, not even Al Michaels will be at a loss for words. And Chris Mihm, who at one point during the dark Kobe years was this team’s starting center. They must just keep him around to impress upon him how badly he sucks.↵

The Celtics, what do they give us? Tony Allen, who may or may not be healthy enough to play, and who may or may not be a useful tool for the future. In the terms of this series, he’s a poor man’s Trevor Ariza. Pollard and Scalabrine, sly investments the team made when they thought they might have to distract fans with “fan favorites.” Gabe Pruitt, who I think is next in line if Sam Cassell completely falls out of favor and Eddie House reveals his true self. And there’s Leon Powe, who probably should be starting for an expansion team. I’d like to see him, Sean May, and Big Baby fight to the death, just to make my life less confusing.↵
↵
↵I hope that helped you. It sure made me calm and prepare to face tonight’s proceedings.↵
