The Mystery of Elton Brand Leaving L.A.

I have no idea why anyone would side with the Clippers over Elton Brand in this supposed free agent swindle, unless it turned out that Brand drinks human blood and strangles puppies. But for those of you looking to collect all the facts before passing final judgment ... well, good luck with that.↵
↵
↵The Los Angeles Times has all the conflicting sides of the story. Agent David Falk claims the team offered a take-it-or-leave-it; Brand diplomatically says “the deal fell through” and reminds us that “I’m not a lawyer.”↵
↵
↵And then there’s Coach Mike Dunleavy’s version of it:↵↵⇥“After I supposedly gave him a take-it-or-leave-it offer, we raised the offer to $75 million and $81 million. They can spin this thing any way they want to try and spin it. The bottom line is, anything Elton ever wanted I did it for him. They stopped having communication with us more than a week ago.”↵↵Falk is an agent and all agents are monsters, so don’t trust him. Dunleavy is playing puppet for the reprehensible Donald Sterling; there’s a reason he’s the one speaking for the front office. So that leaves Brand who, at the end of the day, had the right to opt out and sign wherever he wanted. That he seems fairly unconcerned with spin, or playing the blame game, is either the ultimate cover-up or a sign that everyone else is letting their egos take control in what should be yesterday’s news.↵
