C.J. Miles Rapping His Way Out Of Utah

It’s a weird time to be Utah guard C.J. Miles. The Dallas product, who just finished his third season, is only 21. He’s not as good as Monta Ellis or Louis Williams -- fellow high school guards who fell to the second round in the 2005 draft, but certainly has promise. Last summer, he signed an offer sheet with Utah and then promptly sat out the Rocky Mountain Revue, which was bad for both parties. At the time, he cited fear of an injury. But on the other hand, summer play could’ve raised his stock and conceivably gotten Miles a better contract elsewhere.↵

↵He ended up back with the Jazz, didn’t progress much this season, and this year is doing the exact same thing. It seems, though, that Miles also has some extra-basketballular business to tend to. For one, he’s following former Jazzmate Dee Brown into the rap game. His unembeddable “Whip Game” is just begging for screwed and chopped treatment, which would probably just confused the heck out of his adopted state of Utah. Is this some sort of passive plea for a new NBA home? We always heard that Brown got bounced because he was a bad influence on Deron Williams, but his rap stylings could’ve played just as big a role, and they weren’t nearly as exotic.

↵Miles also faces the daunting task of what we in the business call a “brand war,” since there’s apparently a “sexy Asian swimsuit model” with the same name who is quickly blotting out his YouTube presence. It’ll take one hell of a breakout season to take back that turf, but long-term, Miles just has to pray he doesn’t end up that Texas rappin’ Utah reserve with the name of a softcore lady. These matters are not to be taken lightly.↵
