America’s Invasion of Euro Hardwood May Not Be Over; Another NBAer Considers the Move

That didn’t take long at all, did it? Amidst all the hub-bub of Josh Childress changing the world, and all the challenges that lay ahead of him, at least one promising free agent is already weighing the European option. That would be Carl Landry, small-scale destroyer of worlds and probably 90% of the Rockets’ overall toughness quotient.↵
↵
↵From The Houston Chronicle:↵↵⇥The agent for restricted free agent forward Carl Landry says his client may entertain offers to play overseas.↵⇥
↵⇥
↵⇥“Carl would entertain all serious offers,” Landry’s agent, Buddy Baker, told Houston television station KRIV-TV on Wednesday. “There is serious interest in Carl by both other NBA teams and internationally.”↵↵MyFOXHouston quotes GM Daryl Morey as saying that “Carl and his agent are doing what they think is best for him and if that includes exploring Europe that is their right to do that. We continue to want Carl as a Rocket. We have a difference of opinion on the next steps to get him re-signed, but we have not changed our desire to see him return.” If nothing else, this proves that Morey is smart, serious, and recognizes that this is GAME ON. Rick Sund did not publicly fumble the Childress situation in vain!↵
↵
↵I know I said that Childress was more important than Jennings, so stop me if this gets old: The Landry/Rockets negotiations might give us a more realistic window into exactly what Europe means to NBA players circa 2008. Childress was a special case: A player suited to high-level European team, bound to an American franchise that didn’t give an eff about him. Landry is beloved and valued by Houston’s management, coaches, and fans. If he packs his bags, there’s very little chance his hand will have been forced—or that he’ll be walking into an ideal situation like Childress.↵

↵What’s next, only the Great Ones know. I’m talking about you, Isiah and Magic.↵
