The proper term for condom in Chinese literally translates to “insurance bag” in English, proving once again that the act of translating anything in Chinese to anything in English makes it instantly humorous. The best example of this is the English translation for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Kindergarten Cop, which translates to “Devil, King of Children.” At the risk of biting Dave Barry’s style excessively, this is no way made up at all.↵↵While “Sports Make You Health” doesn’t work on a grammatical level, you certainly feel the meaning in a general sense. You also probably find jokes about sex funny, because you are breathing, and therefore should enjoy Chinese company Elasun’s elegantly base collection of condom ads running in China right now. ↵

↵↵As if the double-entendre wasn’t going far enough, consider that the Chinese have also started referring to going to the Olympics as “avoiding pregnancy,” because the words for “Olympics” sounds something like the words for “contraception,” or “beef tallow business suit,” depending on the tones. Damn you, tonal languages. You’re to blame for me being arrested in Hong Kong that one time. How was I to know the words “bank withdrawal” and “I’m robbing this bank with a bomb strapped to my chest” were one tone apart? Really, people.↵
