Olympics Remain Uncontrollably Sexy

The Olympics, according to Matthew Syed of the London Times, are just as sexy as you expect them to be, especially when the competitors finish their events and have little to do but, you know ... go for the gold, so to speak. Syed, a former Olympic table tennis player, shares his own account of falling into the well-toned cauldron of lust known to the homely, normal-looking rest of the world as the Olympic Village. It includes salacious details of athletes let off the lust leash, an ode to swimmers (who finish early, and therefore have more time to fill) and their “enthusiasms,” which sometimes require the ad hoc creation of new rules on the spot.↵↵⇥There is a famous story from Seoul in 1988 that there were so many used condoms on the roof terrace of the British team’s residential block the night after the swimming concluded that the British Olympic Association sent out an edict banning outdoor sex.↵↵Just how fevered an environment is it? Syed had sex not once, but twice while he was at the 1992 Barcelona Games. Syed looks like what you see above, and is a table tennis player.↵

↵The Beijing Games have addressed what we'll call the "supplemental personal gymnastics" events by throwing bushels of condoms at the Olympic Village and looking the other way, but the gossip leaks out nonetheless thanks to widespread media coverage and -- of course -- swimmers. In this case, Michael Phelps appears to be going for his record ninth medal:↵

↵↵⇥Phelps, fresh from shattering Mark Spitz’s 36-year-old record, was spotted Monday night in a hot make-out session with Down Under swimmer Stephanie Rice, a source [said]. The pumped-up pair clinched and swapped spit at a celebratory bash outside the Olympic Village.↵↵Meanwhile, Viktors Scerbatihs of Lithuania is ready and waiting, ladies, fresh off his bronze medal in weightlifting. Just over here at the bar. Wearing the sexy cologne you like. Ready to hold you in these strong arms. Yup. Just waiting over here...↵
