A Scenario That Could Keep LeBron in Ohio

This might be the rumor mill bombshell of the off-season, and I didn’t stumble upon it until now. Did you hear the one about LeBron James jumping to the Brooklyn Nets, or playing in Russia? What about Dwyane Wade in Chicago? The Akron Beacon Journal has another angle for you to process:↵↵⇥The vision — and it’s not a pipe dream — has James staying and playing on the same team as Dwyane Wade. Or Chris Bosh. Or Josh Howard. Or Amare Stoudamire. Or any of the other big-name NBA guys who can become a free agent in the summer of 2010.
↵⇥
↵⇥Don’t laugh. There is only one NBA team positioned to sign two superstars in 2010, and that’s the Cavaliers. That’s because there’s only one team with a superstar and the cap room to sign another.↵↵Further details are in the article, but basically, dude’s right, and this is a far cry from the doom-and-gloom that’s slowly descending over Cleveland. Bron and Bosh would be absolutely devastating, a high-low game for the 21st century that should make all basketball fans drool. A Bron-Wade combo speaks for itself. Howard and Amare may not be on the level these other three, and who knows if Howard will even command max money.↵
↵
↵Again, though, it’s hard to not be intrigued, and kind of frightened, by the idea of James and Stoudemire running the floor together, or nod your head in approval at Josh Howard -- the one that preceded his recent personal and professional meltdown -- providing offensive versatility, second-banana energy, and real defensive presence in one handy package. Of course, for any of these to work, Danny Ferry would have to convince himself (and LeBron, and this other guy) that he can put together a viable supporting cast for cheap. Though seeing as he’s perfectly good at putting together mediocre rosters, all he needs to do is recognize that he doesn’t need to pay them quite so much.↵
↵
↵Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new collective fantasy to uphold.↵
